Whilst Kig Pink serves as our standard colour, we offer a total of 18 different colours that are available for both our masks and skinsuits, in order to ensure a good colour match between the two products. All colours are free to select for our masks, however non-standard skinsuit colours do cost extra as they use a slightly different fabric to the Kig Pink.
Please know that we are still in the process of confirming if some of these colour matches are correct, so some of the information in these tables is still subject to change.
Digital Colour Codes
All colours have been collected from physical fabric samples using a colour picking device from NCS, which claims to be 99% accurate. To help improve the accuracy, all fabric was folded up to ensure it was measured correctly and did not include any colour from the table below it.
For anybody who would like more details, the colour value we are using is the D50 at 2°, meaning it is the colour taken using light that represents Sunrise/Sunset at an observation within 2 degrees of the material’s surface. The tool does provide lots of different readings and measures the colour under multiple different light conditions, but this is the recommended set of values for us to use.
Once we have a digital colour code from the fabrics we are trying to match, we can enter it into the Encycolorpedia to get further details and look for the closest paint match possible.
Paints
We have been using the same paint supplier since before we even launched DAME and have tried to avoid using other suppliers where possible. However, there have recently been some changes to how our main supplier works with custom-mixed colours, making it a considerably more cost-effective service for us to use and allowing us to source all of the colours we may need from one place. They accept a lot of different paint standards so, where possible, we have picked a paint match from the list of standards they accept that is closest to the colour codes gained from the fabric samples.
None of the colours we currently use are off-the-shelf, as they are instead all custom mixed for us. There are many different companies that offer this service and you should be able to find one local to you, if you are looking to buy some paint yourself. Hopefully the paint matches we have listed here can be used, if not then feel free to use the hex codes from the fabric to try and find your own match, or see if the company you have found can help you to do so.
Sealant
It is recommended that you seal the paint work with a clear coat to help to protect the paint and help to seal in any details. We recommend "Mr. Super Clear Flat" from Mr. Hobby, as it will not affect the colour once dried and will give a nice matt surface finish. Alternatively, they offer a range of other surface finishes if you desire something shinier. Similar to the paint, it should also be quite easy to source locally.
Paint Pens
Some paint suppliers will also offer paint pens, a special pen that uses acrylic paint instead of ink. It is a good way to touch up any flaws or scratches on your items without needing to repaint the whole object, as it gives you a lot of fine control over where the paint will go. Additionally, you usually get the option to select/change which size nib you want on the pen, allowing you to control how wide of a line you wish to draw.
Fabrics
We have chosen all of the colours we offer based on what fabric our skinsuit suppliers have available to them and then match the paint for our masks accordingly, as we believe it is important for you to be able to get a skinsuit that matches the colour of a mask. To help to give people more choice when looking to buy what they need, we have decided to include the name of the fabric for each colour we offer and, where possible, we have provided the name of the fabric as given from the fabric manufacture. However, some colours like Kig Pink are custom dyed by the manufacture and cannot be easily sourced separately.
Where possible, we do offer fabric samples that people can buy to both check the colour against their existing mask or to use as a reference for custom-mixed paint.
Are there more colours?
For skinsuits, unfortunately no, the colours we have listed are all that is on offer from a combination of both Cantillon and MWF.
However, masks are a different story. We can buy custom paint to match anything you want, be it an object or a hex colour code. If you would like it to match an object, we will need to extract the colour code from it using our colour picker tool. We charge £25 for the first item and £10 for every additional item, excluding postage, and will provide you with all of the information that we have collected when doing so. If you have a hex code, or we have gathered one for you, we charge £25 for each custom paint colour. Please contact us to discuss this if it is something you are interested in.
