Kig Hats
As some of you may be aware, kig-sized Witch and Santa hats have been among the selection of products available on our site for the last few years, although availability of said hats has been very limited. So, in order to give more people the chance to purchase these hats, we are changing how they are offered!
We are still working with Porkcube to make them, however instead of only being offered for a limited amount of time or as batches that you have to sign up for, we are now committing to always aiming to have some hats in stock for people to buy.
Porkcube has also been working on a new “Summer Hat” style that we are launching along with this change.
The Plan
As mentioned, the idea is for us to have a set stock of hats on the website that people can purchase at any time. There will still be options for different colours or styles where possible, but we have had to limit options a little in order to control how much we need to store. That said, if you are interested in a different colour to what we have listed on the website, or any other small custom details, then please do contact us and we can discuss this with you and Porkcube to see if they can make what you are looking for.
Shipping
Different to before, all of the hats in stock are being stored at DAME, meaning that we can now offer combine shipping with many of the other products that we sell. So if you want to grab a hat as part of your order, this should end up being cheaper than if Porkcube sent it to you directly, like in previous years. If you are interested in a custom-made hat though, there is a chance that Porkcube may still send you the hat directly, but we will make this clear during any discussions whether or not this will be the case.
Options and Styles
As with previous years, we have both Santa Hats and Witch Hats, with the Witch Hats coming in both full sized and mini versions. Additionally, we have the new Summer Hat that Porkcube has worked on, which will come in either white with a wide ribbon, or a slightly shorter brown version with a thin ribbon.
Our plan is to add new and different styles of hats over time, but if people do have any ideas for hats, or want any of the current ones more customised, do not hesitate to contact us to discuss it. If you’d like to see what hats we currently have available, please take a look at this page.
Storage
We recommend doing the following when storing your hats to ensure they stay in good condition:
- Keep hats away from direct sunlight and away from heat sources as it may fade/damage the fabric.
- It is best to store the hats in their natural shape on a flat surface.
- It is OK to compress hats for short periods of time, such as during transit for a few hours, as the hat will pop back to its original shape when uncompressed.
- Compressing for long periods of time may distort the shape.
Cleaning
You can machine wash your hat on delicate and/or cold temperature, with 20°C (or 68°F) being the recommended temperature. Do not exceed 30°C (or 86°F) as it may damage the fabric. Please remove ribbons and/or bows prior to washing as they may shrink! Do not use bleach.
If you decide to wash the hat by hand, fill your sink/large container with lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Once the mild detergent has fully dissolved, you can place the hat in the water. You may have to squish the hat to get it to fully submerge. Once it’s submerged, gently massage the hat for a few minutes and then leave to soak for 15-20 minutes.
After soaking, drain the water and wring out the hat, then refill your sink/container with clean water and swish the hat around in the water to remove the soap. Repeat this step until the water is clean and there are no soap suds, or alternatively you can keep the hat under the tap until the water runs clear. Once all the soap has been removed, wring out the hat again to squeeze out the excess water.
Once you have removed the excess water, make sure to ‘pop’ your hat back into its original shape. This may include flattening/straightening the brim and popping the hat outwards if it’s squished inwards. Once it’s in its original form, leave to dry on a flat surface. Avoid putting it directly on a radiator/high heat as it may damage the fibres especially with the Christmas hats.
